Privacy Policy

MeshMigo ("the app", "we", "us") is a companion app for Meshtastic LoRa radios that helps off-grid groups stay connected without cell service. This policy explains what data the app handles and why. The short version: your location, messages, and pins travel over your own Meshtastic mesh and stay on your device — they are not sent to MeshMigo servers.
Information the app uses
- Location. With your permission, the app reads your phone's GPS to show your position on the map and to broadcast it to your own group over the Meshtastic mesh. Your precise location travels peer-to-peer over your radios and is not stored on our servers. When you view or download maps, your approximate location is sent to our map provider as part of the map-tile request. If you turn on the optional MQTT relay (off by default), your position may also leave your device via the broker you configure.
- Camera. Used only to scan a QR code to join a group. Camera images are not stored, saved, or transmitted.
- Bluetooth. Used solely to connect to and configure your Meshtastic radio. We do not scan for or track other devices.
- Messages, waypoints & channels. Text messages, dropped pins, and channel settings are transmitted over the Meshtastic mesh (radio-to-radio, encrypted with your channel key) and stored locally on your device. They do not pass through MeshMigo servers. They only leave the mesh if you enable an optional relay feature (MQTT, Discord, or the AI assistant — see below).
- App settings. Preferences, saved offline-map areas, and similar data are stored locally on your device (browser/app storage) and can be cleared by removing the app or clearing its data.
- Notifications & background connection. If you enable background alerts, the app runs a foreground service that keeps your radio connected while your phone is locked and shows notifications about mesh activity, including emergency (SOS) alerts. A persistent notification indicates the radio is connected. This is optional and opt-in.
MeshMigo does not require an account, and we do not collect your name, contacts, or advertising identifier.
Third-party services
To provide certain features, the app communicates with these services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- MapTiler & OpenStreetMap — supply the map and satellite imagery. When you view or download maps, tile requests (which reveal the approximate area you are viewing) are sent to these providers. See their respective privacy policies.
- Apple App Store / Google Play & RevenueCat — process optional in-app purchases (the "Pro" subscription). Payment is handled by the app store; RevenueCat manages purchase entitlements and may use a device or store identifier to do so. We do not see your card details. These identifiers are used for purchase functionality and fraud prevention only — not for advertising or tracking.
- Optional MQTT relay (off by default) — if you enable it, your (already encrypted) mesh traffic is routed through the MQTT broker you configure.
- Optional Discord webhook (off by default) — if you configure it, selected messages are sent to the Discord server you specify.
- Optional AI assistant (off by default) — if you use this feature, the text you submit is sent to Google (Gemini API) to generate a response. Do not enter sensitive information into this feature.
How your data is shared
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers. Information you broadcast over the mesh (your position, messages, and pins) is, by design, visible to other radios on the same channel — that is how a mesh network functions. Choose your channels and the people you share them with accordingly.
Data retention & your control
Data the app stores (settings, saved maps, recent messages, waypoints) lives on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Because messages and positions are not stored on our servers, we cannot retrieve or delete them on your behalf. You control location, camera, and Bluetooth access in your device settings, and you can turn the optional MQTT relay, Discord webhook, and AI assistant on or off at any time.
Children's privacy
MeshMigo is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security
Meshtastic channels can be encrypted with a pre-shared key managed on your devices. App-to-service connections (such as map requests) use HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, but we design MeshMigo to keep your data on your devices and your mesh wherever possible.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
